APRIL
- Apply pre-emergence herbicides
while planting spring
annual beds
- Watch for Azalea leaf gall
- Monitor anthracnose on
Dogwood and Maple
- Spray for powdery mildew,
crabapple scab, red tip leaf spot,
and rose diseases
- Control aphids, webworms, turpentine
beetles, bagworms, borers,
lacebug, leafminers, spider
mites, thrips, and scabs
- Plant summer annuals, and summer
flowering bulbs
- Fertilize trees, shrubs, and ground
covers (except spring flowering)
- Fertilize and prune Azaleas after
blooming
- Fertilize daffodils lightly with
10-10-10
- Prune spring flowering shrubs and
vines after flowering
- Mow turf as needed, monitor
insect and disease activity
- Apply post-emergence herbicides
to turf and shrub beds
- Monitor disease activity on trees
and shrubs
MAY
- Monitor grubs and disease in turf
- Fertilize annual flowers once
per month
- Prune spring flowering shrubs
after flowering
- Prune evergreens for dense
growth habit
- Monitor insects and diseases –
powdery mildew, lacebug, scale,
mites, etc.
- Fertilize spring flowering shrubs
after flowering
- Apply growth regulators to fast
growing plants to curb
pruning needs
- Monitor roses for disease
and insects
- Complete planting annuals and
summer flowering bulbs
- Cut back and mulch daffodils
when foliage dies
- Aerate warm season turf after 75%
